Level 1, 2, and 3 Charging

The level of charge refers to the voltage provided by the charging station, and in turn affects the amount of time it takes to charge the battery.

EV-ChargingStation_photo_1_WEBA level 1 charge uses a standard domestic power source of 110-120 voltz. With a level 1 source, a full charge can take 8-16 hours or more. However, since most charges will only require a partial charge, 5-10 hours is a more common estimate, perfect for overnight charges.

A level 2 charge uses 220-240 voltz and a full charge can take 4-6 hours. A general “top off” using a level 2 charge would likely take 1-2 hours. A level 3 charge uses 440 voltz and is capable of a full charge in 30 minutes.
