Level 1, 2, and 3 Charging
The level of charge refers to the voltage provided by the charging station, and in turn affects the amount of time it takes to charge the battery.
A level 1 charge uses a standard domestic power source of 110-120 voltz. With a level 1 source, a full charge can take 8-16 hours or more. However, since most charges will only require a partial charge, 5-10 hours is a more common estimate, perfect for overnight charges.
A level 2 charge uses 220-240 voltz and a full charge can take 4-6 hours. A general “top off” using a level 2 charge would likely take 1-2 hours. A level 3 charge uses 440 voltz and is capable of a full charge in 30 minutes.
I have a Leaf. I’ll be driving with friends next week to Bailey Island ME from our home in Amesbury, MA. Your list very useful! My husband has a family home in Hancock ME and wants to bring my Leaf there – so we are always looking to find charging stations on the way.
I had to talk him into this car, our other is a VW van. Now he is totally hooked, as am I.

As ev charging is prettt inexpensibe and new to maine i would suggest installing a levington 40a charger from Amazon. These cost around $400 and can be installed for $150. An hour of charging would cost around 90 cents to a dollar for an hour of use. You would benefit from people stopping and eatting. A system that takes credit cards start at 2500 plus require monthly fees…its just not cost effective.

However, Efficiency Maine is currently accepting proposals for grants to develop the charging station infrastructure in Maine, with particular priority for this region. There is no charging facility along route 201 , from the province of Québec to Augusta. It’s very difficult if not impossible to reach the Maine southern beaches. Will the problem ne corrected soon ?
