Buying an electric vehicle (EV) is more affordable in 2021 as Efficiency Maine expands its EV rebate program with more rebates for low-income Maine residents, Maine government entities and tribal governments and select Maine nonprofits.
Rebate changes include:
- Rebates for qualified low-income Maine residents are increased and extended to eligible used electric vehicles
- Government Entity rebates are increased
- New rebate category launched for eligible nonprofit service providers
- Level 2 Charger rebates of up to $500 per plug are available to select Maine Nonprofits, Governmental Entities and Tribal Governments that receive an EV rebate
For the first time, low-income Mainers may qualify for a rebate of up to $5,500 for a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) or up to 4,000 for a plug-in hybrid EV. And, for the first time, rebates of up to $2,500 are available for used vehicles when purchased by low-income Mainers.
Rebates for certain government, tribal or nonprofit entities include up to $12,000 for a new BEV.
The standard rebate is still $2,000 for a BEV and $1,000 for a plug-in hybrid EV.
Tip: Make sure you’re working with a participating dealer and purchasing an eligible EV.
