Recycle electronics, TVs and monitors
When upgrading to new electronics, donate or recycle your old ones. Many towns in Maine offer collection sites for recycling TVs, monitors and other electronics. Other towns offer household hazardous waste collection days. Check the list at www.mainedep.com.
Recycle your non-rechargeable batteries
For close to a decade, typical household batteries (AA, C, D, 9v) have been produced without the hazardous materials that previously made them unsafe for disposal, so some recycling experts advocate putting them in your household trash. However, there are a few locations in Maine that accept single-use batteries for recycling. Check out www.earth911.com to search by product and zip code to find drop-off locations near you.
