Mt. Joy Orchard Spring planting festival
Mt Joy Orchard
Join the Resilience Hub for their annual tree planting and sheet mulching event. Every year they set the stage for a good growing season by planting new trees in the orchard and converting an area of grass to a multi-functional, low maintenance garden area. To get this done requires many hands, but there are jobs for people of all abilities. Activities are mostly informal, so feel free to come for the whole day or just an hour, your help is appreciated either way. To help make this a fun and educational event they will be offering a variety of free workshops throughout the day, times TBA. Rain Date: May 13th
Confirmed Workshops so far are:
Intro to Grafting – ReTreeUS
Intro to Orchard Polycultures and Companion Plants – Edgewood Nursery
Herbal First Aid Remedies in the Mt. Joy Orchard – Wild Carrot Herbs
Kid’s Native Plant Seed Bombs Workshop – Forest Playgroup
Bring work clothes, gloves and garden tools if you have them. The tools you may need are: shovels, grade rakes and wheel barrows. There will be a lunch potluck at 12:00, please bring your own cup/plate/utensils and a dish to share.
Mt. Joy Orchard is a free to pick public orchard providing a creative social space while demonstrating the use of agricultural practices that promote pollinator habitat, biodiversity and the preservation of Maine’s agricultural heritage.
If you have any questions or would like to offer a workshop, or make a donation of materials or funds please be in touch.
