It’s hard to keep track sometimes of what can be recycled and where. Curbside and single sort recycling has helped recycling rates considerably. But what about CFL light bulbs, Mercury thermostats, computers and other electronics? The Maine Department of Environmental Protection publishes a searchable map that lists drop off locations statewide for these items and more. Find it at www.maine.gov/dep/gis/datamaps/ brwm_recycling.
PAINT RECYCLING
In the fall of 2015 a new paint recycling program was launched in Maine that makes it much easier for homeowners to recycle unused and leftover paint. Under the new program, administered by nonprofit PaintCare, unused paint can be dropped off at paint retailers statewide for free recycling. The recycled paint is mixed together and re-used when possible. Find a drop off location near you at www.paintcare.org.
