Green Eggs: "Sustainable Forestry in Maine" with the U.S. Green Building Council
Maine Audubon Gilsland Farm Center
Join us to learn from Jeff Easterling, President of the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association and Executive Director of the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Institute about the state of affairs of lumber manufacturing in Maine. The growth, harvesting and procurement of wood is a critical component of green building. Indeed, it has proven divisive in green building circles as different certification bodies (Forest Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative) offer programs with varying requirements. Many rules, regulations and recommendations apply to large-scale timber operations. In Maine, however, many small woodlot owners are the engine behind our timber industry. What does sustainable forestry in Maine look like? How can we join the national conversation and effectively advocate for what works for Maine.
