A Day to Peaks Island
Bring a bag lunch and join Maine Audubon and two Registered Maine Guides for a day trip to Peaks Island. Learn about the island’s history, from the time it was used as a summer gathering place by Maine’s early native peoples, its settlement in the 1600’s, to present day.
Your walk will pass the Fifth and Eighth Maine Regiment Houses and WWII fortifications. You’ll visit sandy beaches, the rocky back shore, and wooded trails where you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy great birding, learn about the island’s flora, and maybe explore a tidal pool or two.
