Sea level rise adaptation planning is underway in Portland. The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at the Muskie School of Public Service, University of Southern Maine is hosting a public discussion about results from a simulation modeling effort in support of this process.

The EFC will present results from a recent study using their COAST tool (Coastal Adaptation to Sea level rise Tool), which helps communities evaluate costs and benefits of adaptation actions municipalities might undertake in response to threats of sea level rise and storm surge over the next century. The study evaluated potential lost real estate values in the Bayside portion of Portland, under different sea level rise, storm surge, and adaptation scenarios.
