Adopting pets from a shelter

Considering a new pet in your life? Instead of purchasing your pet from a pet store or breeder, check out one of Maine’s animal shelters or rescue organizations. There is a good chance you can find the breed or mix you are looking for, and provide a new life to one of the many wonderful pets waiting to be adopted. The fees are usually much less than those of pet stores and breeders, and your new pet is more likely to be up to date on shots and be spayed or neutered. Adoption fees vary, so do your research ahead of time and be sure to take into consideration the ongoing costs of veterinary care, food, training, and supplies.
